<span style=”color: #383838; font-family: Georgia, ‘Times New Roman’, serif; font-size: 19px;”>I am very pleased to be part of this experience, although it would be a lot more exciting if we weren’t in the middle of a global pandemic and if we could have had the opportunity to travel abroad for this project. However, I think it will still be very interesting and fun to get in contact with other students from outside of Ireland who have been undergoing similar work to us. As for the work itself, the Hackathon on Arranmore, I am very keen to get started on that project. It sounds brilliant. It is great to be able to give the island opportunities they may never have without this event. Clearly the island has a lot of potential. One competence that I hope to develop during this experience is initiative, I like to think I have a certain level of initiative, but I feel as though this project will enhance that skill because although we have a rough outline on what we must do, it is up to us to decide what to do for most of the work and how we should go about it. To achieve this, I will have to take the project step by step and as well as having a final plan I will plan for each subproject to keep track of what’s important along the way. This will enhance my initiative as I will know what I’m supposed to be doing at all times and I can think ahead to the next milestone without having to be told what to do. I also hope to develop my technical skills. A lot of this project will be based on technology and we will have to use it to complete the project. I think this will enhance my technical skills as I learn best by doing as opposed to reading or writing. I’m sure I will develop a lot more competencies along the way which I hadn’t even hoped to!</span>
